All Checked In...

All Checked In......we are here! Stephanie, along with Brittany are holding down the fort at home. Winnie is wondering what is going on. Stephanie and possibly Brittany will come on Tuesday for a visit. We are unsure about what will take place these next 2 1/2 days but we have come equipped with care packages, cards, run off emails, books and photos for the duration. We couldn't be more blessed to have such warm, loving and special items with us during this time.

We made a trial run from our hotel to the Neurological Institute in the Methodist Hospital. Lots of corridors and hallways but we think we can find it tomorrow morning a little before 7am. We went and ate at Niko Nikos, Greek restaurant, and had hummis, pita bread, kalamata olives, the biggest slices of feta cheese and a chicken schwarma. We were in heaven.....this restaurant was on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. So yummy, we even have some left over for tomorrow.

Reality has set in and we are about to embark on something that is totally unknown to us. Stephanie has printed a 5x7 framed picture of the three of us and made cards for her Father for our entire stay here in downtown Houston. She is a very strong young lady and when we left home this afternoon to drive down, we all were trying to put our happy faces on. We need to try alittle harder because our tears were running down our so called happy faces. It was tough....I don't think that part will get better.

Tomorrow is a full day for Peter. We are under the impression that Peter might have to repeat some of the tests he has already done. We talked to Dr. Appell's Resident early this afternoon and she is thinking the spinal, the brain MRI, the nerve conduction function test, and the electromyography might have to be done again. Peter is a great sport and says to me, "we will do what we need to do." "It will be okay."

My hope is to send a new blog each evening while we are here. We would love to hear from everyone of you guys. Please comment if you have a moment. Tell us something funny or just tell us anything. We want to know what is going on in y'alls lives. We so appreciate all of your support, prayers and thoughts. Our whole family couldn't do this without it.

Off to put my pj's on and watch a movie with Peter. Early day tomorrow.....

We love you, DeeAnn

  2. DeeAnn & Peter,
We go back nearly exactly 43 years in our knowledge of, and deep respect for the skillful hands and compassionate professionals that call Methodist Hospital home. We know and trust in their abilities, their dedication, and the special kind of spiritual and medical care that is uniquely theirs. May you find the same kind of comfort and promise that we found there more than four decades ago.

  3. DeeAnn, I am thinking of you guys and wishing you all the best over the next couple of days. You are such a wonderful, giving, terrific family. I am with you in spirit!
I just told Grace, "Wow . . . Miss DeeAnn finished all her running homework already!" She said, word for word, "Of course she did, Mommy . . . Miss DeeAnn runs FAST and she is STRONG!!" So very true . . . in more ways than one!
I'm going to send you more running homework just in case you want it :-) . . . but don't worry at all if you don't get to it. Enjoy the movie, try to get some rest, and all the best for good results tomorrow . . . I am cheering for you, Peter and Stephanie!!

  4. Peter and DeeAnn,
We just watched the moon rise out of a calm Lake Michigan. We were looking at the moon, but we were seeing you.

  5. Here is a funny one. Walked with Dad's Garmin but had some trouble... I am too short for the satellite to find me. It finally worked once I got up on the top of the hill. Sleep well...mom

  11. Hey...."It Came Upon a Midnight Clear", DeeAnn, Stephanie and Winnie,
Thanks for this blog....it will help me know how to pray for you and you are always in my thoughts and prayers. I'm glad you are at Methodist receiving the best care out there!

    Ok...funny story...
This past weekend I went camping at Steamboat Lake with old friends from college. Let's see....packing list included: tent, mummy bag, towels, swimsuit, hiking boots, box of red wine. (The sommelier at Cru would be quite disappointed) So... by the campfire I spent my nights playing the guitar with a towel covering my legs to protect them from the heat of the fire. Anyway after 2 days without a shower I broke down and got 4 quarters for my 3 minutes of what was supposed to be hot water. Let's just say tepid water is what I got. Anyway....I got all showered and then couldn't wait to dry off with my clean towel.....yep....the same towel I protected my legs with the night before. Needless to say....post-shower I was still a campfire girl!

Can't wait to see you in August! I love all y'all....thoughts and prayers
    constantly!

    love, love, love ya!
    Donna

  12. Cottage tasks for the day -- a little weed-eating, and burying a dead salmon. The gull that was eating the salmon returned and spent 20 befuddled minutes looking. We will save the wood pile work and tree trimming for Matt and Amanda. Did you hear that Sadie is coming to the cottage? Lucky Sadie! Amanda tells us that the other dogs have separation anxiety without Sadie. Can you feel us there with you?

  18. Rest with Me a while. You have journeyed up a steep, rugged path in recent days. The way ahead is shrouded in uncertainty. Look neither behind you nor before you. Instead, focus your attention on Me, your constant Companion. Trust that I will equip you fully for whatever awaits you on your journey.
The highest level of trust is to enjoy Me moment by moment. "I am with you, watching over you wherever you go."

  20. Dear Peter & DeeAnn,
We were glad to get your blog so we can keep up-dated on what is going on with the three of you. After writing a blog yesterday, we couldn't send it. Now, with Bob's help, we are able to.
We, of course, have been thinking of you. Peter, we are so glad to hear that your tests went so well yesterday and hope the rest of your time at Methodist goes as well. Team Anderson is very impressive.
We are in Estes Park visiting Nancy & Kurt and their beloved dog, Jack. It has been so exciting seeing their new property and cabin.
Love to all of you, Joyce & Buzz
